A quiet and authentic tea experience in a private tea room in Setagaya, Tokyo.

Experience the spirit of Chanoyu (the Japanese tea ceremony) in a traditional private tea room in Setagaya, Tokyo.
At Jikyuan, we welcome guests into a peaceful tea room and introduce the beauty and spirit of Omotesenke, one of the major traditions of Japanese tea.
Rather than simply watching a tea ceremony, you will have the opportunity to experience the atmosphere of Chanoyu through tea, sweets, utensils, and the quiet interaction between host and guest.
A Moment of Quiet Through a Bowl of Tea

In Chanoyu, the encounter between host and guest is considered a once-in-a-lifetime moment.
We hope that, through a bowl of tea, you will experience a moment of stillness and discover a different aspect of Japanese culture.
Our tea room is located in a quiet residential area of Setagaya, away from the busy tourist areas of central Tokyo.
What You Will Experience

During the 90-minute experience, you will:
- Enter a traditional Japanese tea room
- Learn about the basic spirit and etiquette of Chanoyu
- Watch the host prepare your first bowl of matcha
- Prepare your second bowl of matcha yourself, with guidance from the host
- Enjoy a seasonal Japanese confection (wagashi)
- Experience traditional Japanese dry sweets (higashi)
- Learn about tea utensils and the seasonal elements of the tea room
- Have time to ask questions and enjoy a conversation about Chanoyu
The experience is conducted in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, and no previous knowledge of Japanese tea is required.
About Omotesenke

Jikyuan follows the tradition of Omotesenke, one of the three major schools of the Sen family of tea.
Omotesenke places great importance on simplicity, harmony, and the sincere encounter between host and guest.
Through the tea ceremony, we hope to share not only the techniques of preparing matcha, but also the quiet beauty and mindfulness at the heart of Japanese culture.
